This tutorial provides an overview of Talkative Power Conversion (TPC). TPC is an emerging technology for simultaneous communication and power transfer in which data modulation is integrated into a power converter. TPC is a multidisciplinary topic with influences from power electronics, communication technology and control engineering. TPC has a wide range of applications, including grid applications, wireless applications, battery management systems and the control of motor drives. TPC is therefore not just a possible replacement for power line communication. The aim of the presentation is to provide an easy-to-understand overview of the main principles of TPC.
个人简介(About the speaker):
Peter A. Hoeher (Fellow, IEEE) received the Dipl.Ing. (M.Sc.) degree in electrical engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany, in 1986, and the Dr.Ing. (Ph.D.) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1990. From 1986 to 1998, he was with German Aerospace Center, Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. From 1991 to 1992, he was on leave with AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ, USA. Since 1998, he has been a Full Professor of Electrical and Information Engineering with Kiel University, Kiel, Germany.
He has authored or coauthored more than 300 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers with a total of about 15,000 citations, and has filed more than 20 patent families. His research interests include digital communications with focus on wireless communication, visible light communication, simultaneous information, and power transfer. Since 2014, he has been a Fellow of the IEEE for contributions to decoding and detection that include reliability information.
