内容摘要Abstract: 

Wind energy is the cornerstone for global efforts towards zero carbon emissions. However, the rapid development of wind farms has yet to be matched by the development of their control technologies, forming a challenge that directly impacts operating efficiency. Particularly, wake effects degrade the performance of conventional control strategies, cutting wind farm energy production typically by 5–20%. In this work, novel deep reinforcement learning-based control methods are designed to optimize wind farms’ total power generation by simultaneously controlling all the wind turbines within the farm. The proposed data-driven approaches achieve superior performance than mainstream control strategies in various fidelity simulations, showing the power of AI and intelligent control in unlocking the full potential of wind energy.

 

个人简介(About the speaker):

Dr Hongyang Dong is an assistant professor at the School of Engineering, University of Warwick. He worked as a research fellow in machine learning and intelligent control at Warwick from 2019 to 2022, before he became an assistant professor in November 2022. He obtained the B.Eng. degree in automation in Jul. 2013 and the PhD degree in control science and engineering in Jan. 2018, both from Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His current research interest is control theories and machine learning methods with their applications in complex systems, including offshore renewable energy and autonomous systems.
