摘 要:
Composite sandwich structures effectively decrease weight while increasing strength and stiffness when compared to metals. These properties are making sandwich structures much more popular for aerospace applications. However, many of the popular sandwich configurations have acoustic and damping properties which are not ideal for applications that see significant vibrations. This lack of vibrational performance can shorten the structure’s life span along with resonating unwanted acoustic vibrations. Natural cork is intriguing not only for its acoustic damping properties, but also because it is environmentally friendly; a material characteristic that is increasingly desirable in industry. This study examines the use of natural cork in sandwich structures by comparing their acoustic and damping properties over synthetic core sandwich composites. Also, this seminar will discuss viscoelastic properties of elastomer composites along with the master curve and show how to expand to friction coefficient over a wide range of slip velocity. The viscoelastic properties of the composites can significantly affect the noise and vibrational characteristics of the structural applications including tire tread and weather strip. These results could indicate that by optimizing viscoelastic properties of such composites environmentally friendly composite materials can be widely used in a variety of engineering applications, which particularly require acoustic and damping performance.
