Abstract:
Abstract:Aircraft noise remains a significant environmental concern for communities near airports. Dominant noise sources shift with flight phase — engine noise is the primary contributor during take-off. This talk focuses on propulsion noise in propeller-driven configurations, with particular attention to Contra-Rotating Open Rotor (CROR) systems. These tandem counter-rotating propellers pose distinct acoustic challenges: high tip Mach numbers and the absence of a nacelle give rise to intense noise radiation. The talk presents investigations into front-rotor trailing-edge blowing as a noise reduction strategy targeting rotor–rotor interaction noise, i.e., a dominant component of the open rotor acoustic signature during take-off.
