内容摘要Abstract:
This talk examines systems of ordinary differential equations with given initial conditions and an identically singular matrix in front of the principal part. Such systems are commonly referred to as differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). The fundamental differences between DAEs and standard ODE systems are highlighted. The concept of the DAE index, which characterizes its complexity, is introduced. The fundamental difficulties encountered in developing approximate methods for solving DAEs are discussed. Illustrative examples are provided.

Professor Bulatov, chief researcher in Matrosov Institute for System Dynamics and Control Theory of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, author of over 100 papers, specialist in the numerical solution of integral, differential-algebraic and stiff ordinary equations.
